Shane Long has been ruled out of tonight’s game at the Aviva stadium due to a last minute calf-strain with his place alongside Robbie Keane in the line up going to former Reading team-mate Kevin Doyle.
Long, who has scored two goals in three games for new club West Brom, was somewhat of a surprise inclusion in Trapattoni’s starting eleven as the Italian has previously favoured partnering Doyle with Keane but the injury means that the more familiar pairing will line out in this evening’s Euro qualifier with Slovakia.
The FAI said that the withdrawal of Long was only a precautionary measure and the Tipperary man will remain with the squad and should be fit for Tuesday’s match with Russia.
The revised line ups are as follows
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: Given (Aston Villa); O’Shea (Sunderland), Dunne (Aston Villa), St Ledger (Leicester City), Ward (Wolves); Duff (Fulham), Andrews (Ipswich Town), Whelan (Stoke City), McGeady (Spartak Moscow); Keane (LA Galaxy), Doyle (Wolves).
SLOVAKIA (probable): Mucha (Everton); Pekarik (Kayerispor), Durica (Lokomotiv Moscow), Skrtel (Liverpool), Cech (Trabzonspor); Guede (Slovan Bratislava), Kucka (Inter); Weiss (Espanyol), Hamsik (Napoli), Jendrisek (Freiburg); Vittek (Ankaragucu)
