The early season form of Manchester duo City and United has been rewarded as Edin Dzeko marked his return to form in splendid fashion, claiming the August player of the month award with Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson winning a remarkable 26th Manager of the Month trophy.
Manchester City striker Dzeko claims the August award after an outstanding start to his first full season with the club.
The Bosnian striker has in all three of City’s fixtures so far, with his four goals in the 5-1 win over Spurs adding to single efforts in the successes against Swansea and Bolton Wanderers.
Those goals have helped City to second in the Barclays Premier League table, only below rivals United on goal difference having won all their three games today.
United meanwhile have made a stunning start to the season, like City they have won all three games, with their 8-2 home victory against Arsenal laying down a benchmark for the those hoping to take away their crown.
Ferguson’s side opened their title defence with a victory away to West Brom, before turning on the style in a stunning second half against Spurs that saw then score 3 goals.
An even more stunning performance over Arsenal saw them run out 8-2 winners and move to the top of the table for the first time this season.
The decisions were made by the Barclays Awards Panel that includes representatives from football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.
