Derval O’Rourke (Leevale AC) was unable to start the 100m hurdle semi-final at the World Track and Field Championships in Daegu, South Korea. The semi-final took place at 11.15am Irish time on this morning.

There has been no statement to why O’Rourke did not start, but its apparent she suffered a calf injury during the warm up.

The Irish Athletics official twitter page tweeted “Derval hurt her calf after first round. Tested in warmup and it wasn’t right..”

As soon as we get more news we will update this page.

Earlier Colin Griffin (Ballinamore AC) was disqualified from the 50km walk at the World Track and Field Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Griffin was placed in 31st position when he received his third red card. This is hugely disappointing for the Leitrim man who has committed himself to the toughest of training for this grueling event including attitude training in Livigno , Italy in preparation for the championships.

A hugely disappointed Griffin had this to say on his Twitter account later:

“The biggest winners today were the judges. W/O sounding bitter, way too many red cards and DQ’s. Some good experienced guys taken out. Way ott .

DQ’d at 30km.Disappointed and angry. Was close to PB pace, well inside Olympic A std & feeling good &ready to put the boot down at 35km.”

It certainly has been a controversial Championships for disqualifications.
