Wolves have jumped to the top of the queue as the race for the signature of Scotland forward James McFadden hot’s up following his exit from Birmingham City.

The 28-year-old, currently recuperating from a knee injury, expects to be fit to look for a new club in four weeks’ time and it is thought that he is a target for Mick McCarthy’s in-form Premier League outfit, Wolves.

However Wolves will face competition from Aston Villa and Celtic who are also monitoring his progress.

McFadden missed most of last season after suffering cruciate ligament damage last September and is free to look for a new club after Birmingham chose not to take up a two-year option on his contract.
