Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni will have to reorganize his back line for Tuesday night’s crucial Euro 2012 qualifier against Russia with Sean St Ledger ruled out due to suspension.
The Leicester defender, who put in a man of the match performance in the dour draw with Slovakia, is out of the Group B clash after picking up a late booking.
Trapattoni could not turn to Leeds United’s on loan defender Darren O’Dea to partner Richard Dunne, with the other option been to move John O’Shea into the centre of defence and bring in Wolves Kevin Foley at right-back.
The Italian said: “It’s good to have Sean when we are playing against quick strikers and he and Richard Dunne have played well together.
“But we have more people. Darren O’Dea played well against Italy and I am confident in him also. There is also John O’Shea, but I will decide after training.”
