Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has denied rumours that Manchester City made an cheeky bid for Lionel Messi last month.

Reports in Spain suggested City had made €50million plus offer that included striker Mario Balotelli to bring the Argentinean star to the Etihad Stadium but Barcelona had rejected the bid.

However, Bartomeu has denied that such offer was made, telling Sport “Our policy is not to sell our stars but on this subject it certainly did not (happen).”

Meanwhile, Bartomeu gave no assurances over the future of Barca coach Pep Guardiola but added that he hopes the Spaniard will stay on at Camp Nou saying “The decision lies with Pep but we hope to go on with him on the bench.”
