Limerick Senior Hurling Championship – Semi-Final Replay

After their low-scoring draw in last week’s semi-final, (2-7 to 1-10) Ahane and Emmets must meet again on Sunday to decide who goes through to the final to meet Na Piarsaigh.

Emmets reached this stage of the competition after powering through the group stage, beating Bruff, Patrickswell and Granagh/Ballingarry in the process. This set them up for a quarter-final against Hospital/Herbertstown which they won convincingly on a scoreline of 1-23 to 1-14.

Ahane, on the other hand stuttered somewhat during the group stages, winning against Knockainey, drawing with Murroe/Boher but losing to Doon. In the quarter-final, they cause a surprise when beating Adare on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-8.

In last week’s drawn game, it was Ahane who came from behind to force a draw after the group side, Emmets had scored two early goals. However, Emmets appeared to run out of steam in the second half, probably as a result of most their players being on duty with their clubs on Saturday and Ahane bounced back. Led by Niall and Ollie Moran, Ahane have been there and have seen it all before but Emmets are a strong outfit who have been knocking on the door for the last couple of seasons.

They also have no shortage of inter-county talent with Richie McCarthy and Nicky Quaid having starred on various Limerick teams during 2011. They were without Tommy Quaid last week as he opted to play with CIT in the Cork championship instead.

It is rumoured that they have suffered a massive blow on Friday with the news that Effin may have withdrawn their five representatives from the Emmets squad.

I have a suspicion that all is not well within the Emmets squad and this may hand the initiative to Ahane

Verdict: Ahane
