England midfielders Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have been targeted by Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala and the pair are set to be offered two-year contracts worth £13 million a season, it has been reported.
The extremely wealthy Russian outift made headlines last year when they signed Cameroon striker Samule Eto’o from Inter Milan making him the highest-paid player in the world.
Anzhi’s billionaire owner, Suleyman Kerimov, is determined to add more big names to a squad that already includes Roberto Carlos, Diego Tardelli and Yuri Zhirkov and reports in the Russian press suggest that Gerrard, 31, and Lampard, 33, are on the owner’s shopping list.
Liverpool captain Gerrard and Chelsea midfielder Lampard are unlikey to be tempted by the move. However, should they find the money on offer too good to turn down, the England duo could be joined by a familiar face next season with reports that Anzhi are also keen to sign England coach Fabio Capello as the clubs manager.
