Norwich will be looking for their first home win of the new season and their first back-to-back Premier League victories since April 2005 when they welcome Sunderland to Carrow Road.
Norwich got off the mark last weekend at the fifth attempt as they beat 2-1 Bolton at the Reebok and with the monkey off their back, the Canaries will be keen to push on now and secure a first win in front of their supporters.
The last time the two sides met, was two seasons ago in the League cup with the visitors running out 4-1 winners, that was Paul Lamberts second game in charge and since they surged up the divisions.
Lambert will head into the game with a number of problems at the back, the former Celtic midfielder will again be without centre-half Zak Whitbread, the Canadian is struggling with a hamstring problem while fellow defenders Elliott Ward (knee) and Dani Ayala (both knee) also remain sidelined.
Manager Paul Lambert has no other injury worries, and could freshen his team up after making half a dozen changes for last week’s win at Bolton, with striker Grant Holt pushing for a recall.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce meanwhile will be keen to keep up the momentum gained from last weekend’s impressive 4-0 win over Stoke. Like Norwich that win was the Mackems first of the season and lifted some of the pressure that had been building on the former Birmingham boss.
Bruce will again be without full-back Phil Bardsley as he sits out the second of a four game suspension while Craig Gordon and Fraizer Campbell are also missing as they continue their rehabilitation from injury.
Irish midfielder David Meyler is close to a return after playing 45 minutes for the reserves in midweek, although he is not yet ready to return to action after a second serious knee problem.
