While he may no longer grace the football pitches of Europe anymore Gianluca Vialli has today given a bold prediction of how Italy will fare at this year’s World Cup, and it doesn’t bode too well for Ireland.

Vialli was speaking to Will Carling as part of Heineken’s ‘This Is The Game’ campaign and when pressed on how he thinks his fellow countrymen will get on at the Rugby World Cup Vialli was quick off the mark.
“Quarter finals for certain” said Vialli. “If we are very very lucky then we can get to the semi-finals.”

For Vialli’s prediction to come true then Italy will have to defeat Declan Kidney’s Ireland team when the two sides meet in Dunedin next Sunday.

Italy coach Nick Mallet has already fuelled things ahead of the game. When speaking after his side’s victory against America earlier on today Mallet laid down the gauntlet to the Irish front row by saying ““We know perfectly well we have a better front row than Ireland and we’re hoping to prove that on Saturday,” If our front row put us on the front foot, we can win the game
