Sligo Rovers tonight moved 3 points clear at the top of the Premier division, convincingly beating a poor Dundalk side at the Showgrounds.

Dundalk’s Dean Bennett’s third-minute sending off meant Ian Foster’s side were always facing an uphill battle to take any points back home to Louth.

First-half goals from Richie Ryan and Joseph Ndo set Sligo Rovers up for what would turn out to be a comfortable 5-0 win over nine-man Dundalk.

Substitutes John Dillon and Eoin Doyle each netted in the second half, while Johnny Breen put through his own net late on and Greg Bolger was sent-off on the 90 minute mark, to complete a nightmare evening for Dundalk.

SLIGO ROVERS FC: Brendan Clarke, Alan Keane (Liam Martin 83), Gavin Peers (John Dillon 35), Jason McGuinness, Conor Powell, Joseph Ndo, Richie Ryan (C), John Russell, Danny Ventre, Aaron Greene, Matthew Blinkhorn (Eoin Doyle 70).
