Bale named Welsh player of the year

Tottenham’s flying winger Gareth Bale has been named Wales Footballer of the Year for the second year in a row.

2010/2011 was a mixed bag for the 22-year-old who started the season in stunning fashion only to suffer an injury-hit start to 2011, however his early season form was enough for him to be named the PFA player of the year award.

Despite only featuring in 3 of Wales game so far this year, the 30 times capped Bale was a standout performer in the Euro 2012 qualifier win over Montenegro as well as impressing in the defeat to England.

Bale, who made his international debut against Trinidad & Tobago in 2006, was presented with his award at a ceremony at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday night.

Swansea’s Joe Allen took home the Young Player of the Year Award at the ceremony.

The 21 year old played a key role in Swansea’s promotion campaign and has impressed in the Premier League to date.
