The Galway county board has ratified the appointed Alan Mulholland as their new senior football manager.

The Salthill/Knocknacarra club man replaces Tomas O Flatharta, who was only in charge for one season and is Galway’s fourth manager is as many years.

However the county board look set to give Mulholland, who led the Tribesmen to the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship title in 2007 and the under-21 crown last season, time to rebuild the county after offering the new man a three year contract.

Should Mulholland lasts term of the contract then he will be bucking a recent trend that has seen Joe Kernan not to mention O’Flatharta both leave after one campaign while Liam Sammon fared slightly better, taking charge for two terms.

Mulholland has bought in Tuam Stars manager Alan Flynn and Donal Ó Flatharta from Spiddal as his assistants and the pair will be very familiar to Mulholland having worked with his on the Galway U21 selecting panel last season.

Nominated for 2011 Realex Web Awards
