According to reports on Spanish radio station Cope earlier today, yes the same station that was forced to apologize to both Valencia and Barcelona over doping allegations, Manchester United are interested in signing Benfica’s Javi Garcia.
Garcia began his career with Real Madrid, failing to make the grade eventually moving to Osasuna then returning to Real before eventually being sold to Benfica for €7million in July 2009.
The 24 year old defensive midfielder has appeared five time this season for Benfica, including the Champions League game against United last month and his performances have impressed United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Garcia has played at every level for Spain from Under-16′s all the way through to the Under-21′s, winning the UEFA U19 Championship in 2006 however he has yet to appear for their full international side.
Garcia is valued at around £10 million mark by Benfica, and given his versatility, he can also play centre back, he would an useful addition to the United squad especially as both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have struggled with injury this season.
However despite his talent the player has been prone to indiscipline and his time with Benfica has seen him booked 19 times and sent off once in just over two seasons.
