Connacht boss Eric Elwood is preparing for the trip to take on Leinster in the RDS this Saturday without a number of key players following last week’s bruising bonus point loss to Ospreys.
“We’re limited as to what we can do this week with the number of injuries we have carried over from last weekend”, said former Ireland international Elwood.
“We didn’t train on Monday to give the guys an extra days recovery and we’ll have to see what we have to work with during the week.”
“Gavin Duffy and Tiernan O’Halloran have both been down to Ennis to the cryotherapy centre there to help accelerate the healing following bangs, ” said Elwood but the Leinster test will come too soon for James Loxton.
Mark McCrea and Dave Moore both returned to training while longer term injured Miah Nikora and George Naoupu won’t be available for a few weeks.
There was bad news for Andrew Browne though whose rehabilitation setback means he will have to go for an operation on his Achilles.
Elwood may be forced to promote some Under 20s for the trip to the capital but he says that is something he is not afraid of: “That’s a positive for us, to be able to show faith in those young lads is great.”
Despite the extensive injury list Elwood is looking forward to the clash with the Heineken cup champions.
“We’re looking forward to playing in front of a large crowd, Leinster are a well supported team, the European Champions and the Inter-Provincial matches are always an exciting game”, he said.
“The RDS is a nice place to play rugby, it’s quite tight no doubt well have a bit of extra support for Connacht there this year.”
Leinster take on Connacht at the RDS at 5.00 on Saturday and SportsnewsIreland will have live score commentary of the game
