Fergal O’Donnell has left his position as manager of the Roscommon manager after three years in charge.
O’Donnell led the team to the county’s first Connacht Senior title in nine years in 2010 when they beat Sligo before reaching another provincial final this year only to lose out to Mayo.
Roscommon were then heavily beaten by Tyrone in the qualifiers. The decision to step down as Roscommon football manager took county board officials completely by surprise.
“It’s a big shock because he’s done so much for the county from his involvement with the minors to the seniors,” Roscommon PRO Colm Beirne said to the Irish Examiner.
“We’re all still in shock and over the next few days there will be a lot of talk about the great work he is doing. Some time soon there will be a selection committee formed and we will begin the process of finding a replacement.”
