League of Ireland – Derry win as Sligo slip up

Derry City, St Patricks Athletic, Bohemians and Drogheda United all won on a Saturday of drama in the Airtricity league of Ireland.

At Richmond Park, a goal from Conor Kenna helped St Patricks Athletic beat league leaders Sligo Rovers one nil. Kenna’s deflected header on 67 minutes from a Stephen Bradley free beat Rovers goalkeeper Brendan Clarke and sealed an impressive win and moves Pats to within 5 points of the top.

Meanwhile UCD run’s win’s came to a halt as they went down 2-0 away to Bohemians’. Christy Fagan with his 11th of the season and Keith Buckley scored the goals that moves Pat Fenlon’s side on to 59 points 3 behind 4th place Pats.

Derry City meanwhile moved to within four points of the top with a 2-0 win over Dundalk at Oriel Park. Ian Foster’s men have been in poor form of late as injuries and loss of form impact on his squad and today was no different as they struggled to contain Stephen Kenny’s side, goals from Eamon Zayed and Daniel Lafferty enough to put Derry back in contention at the top.

Finally Drogheda won the battle of the bottom as they beat Galway United 2-1 at Terryland Park. The home side struck first when Alan Murphy scored with a lovely chip on 66 minutes however Drogs fought back and levelled matters 7 minutes later when Daniel Corcoran headed home however the points were sealed when Sean Kelly headed past his own keeper.
