Arsenal and Liverpool look set to fight it out for the signature of Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou when the transfer window re-opens in January.
The 26-year-old Ivory Coast striker is in the final year of his contract and has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Fernando Torres and the emergence of Daniel Sturridge.
Talks over extending his contract have stalled of late and the player would be free to talk to clubs outside of England from January leading to speculation that Chelsea could sell him in the transfer window rather than lose him for nothing next summer
Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer of the player and is reportedly ready to offer £6million for Kalou however he faces competition from Kenny Dalglish who is also monitoring the player’s situation.
A move to Arsenal would allow Kalou to stay in London and with the player expressing an admiration for the man who tried to buy him from Feyenoord in 2006 a move to the Emirates might on the cards.
Kalou have played three times so far this season, featuring twice in the EPL and once in the Champions league, coming on as a sub against Valencia.
