Anzhi Makhachkala player-coach Roberto Carlos had responded to the increasing speculation linking players with the Russian club by stating that he wouldn’t speak to the press anymore and denied the statements about the club’s alleged plans to sign the world’s top players, including Robin van Persie or Nene.
The club are backed by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov and came to worldwide prominence during the summer when they completed the signings of Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o and Yuri Zhirkov from Chelsea.
Former Brazilian left back Carlos joined the club in February of this year and was recently appointed as the club’s temporary player coach following the sacking of Gadzhi Gadzhiyev in September.
Anzhi have also been linked with moves for Chelsea striker Nicholas Anelka and Neymar however speaking to RIA Novosti, the former Real Madrid star was keen to play down the rumours “Once again, I have to regretfully admit that the amount of fake interviews attributed to me has gone beyond reasonable limits recently. Words about some fictional newcomers whose names were a real discovery for me at times have been put into my mouth”
“In this regard I would like to make two official statements. The first one is that I didn’t mention particular names of any new signings from among the players or possible candidates for our head coach position in any of my interviews.
“The second is that from now on I won’t do any more interviews and will completely dedicate myself to my coaching job at Anzhi”
