Former Clare midfielder Ollie Baker looks set to become the new Offaly senior hurling manager, after the committee appointed to select a new boss recommended the dual All-Ireland winner.

Baker, who won the Liam McCarthy Cup with the Banner county in 1995 and 1997, will bring in Alan Cunningham as a coach should he be ratified by the county board. It is expected that the new appointment will be rubber stamped at next month’s board meeting. Baker will also be allowed to name his own selectors as part of the agreement.

The new manager is based in Tullamore and takes over from Joe Dooley who resigned after the conclusion of Offaly’s interest in the 2011 championship.

Nominated for 2011 Realex Web Awards
