Harry Redknapp is looking to strengthen his defence after his side have been left a bit short at the back thanks to injuries this season. Ledley King limped off during their 2-2 draw with Newcastle at the weekend and Redknapp wants to reinforce his backline.
According to reports, the North Londoners are lining up a double swoop for Barcelona duo Martin Montoya and Marc Bartra. Montoya is a full back and that is a position that Redknapp has failed to really strengthen. Kyle Walker has emerged as a candidate to secure the right full back position for years to come but Spurs have no real cover if he was to be absent. Their left back Assou-Ekotto is often questionable and despite his good attacking ability, his defending is left wanting at times. The young 20 year old has been linked with several clubs including Blackburn Rovers.
Both players it seems have agreed terms with the Spanish giants but that might have changed. Their deals were that they would sign long term contracts with the Catalan club at the end of this season but limited playing time has perhaps forced them to change their mind with Spurs among a number of clubs waiting to pounce.
Montoya was included in Spain’s Euro 2012 qualifier squad recently but didn’t feature and it is believed that the Premier League clubs are likely to make a substantial bid when the window opens in January.
