Lee McCulloch scored the only goal as Rangers claimed a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in a friendly at Ibrox on Tuesday night.

With neither side involved in European football, both sides used the games to give some fringe players valuable game time with David Weir and Matt McKay featuring for Rangers and Danny Wilson, Sebastian Coates and Doni starting for Liverpool.

The only goal of the game came 20 minutes in when Rangers won a corner after Doni saved from Steven Whittaker, Steve Davis’s delivery caused mayhem in the Liverpool defence allowing McCulloch to slot home.

Rangers almost made it two through McKay however Doni was equal to his effort producing a stunning stop while at the other end Andy Carroll went close for Liverpool.

The half time whistle saw Rangers make five changes with Liverpool emerging unchanged however despite the changes it was the home side who threatened first when Doni saving from Kyle Lafferty however the ball spilled leading to claims it had crossed the line however the referee gave the decision Liverpool’s way.

Doni was forced off as a result of that saved with Martin Hansen coming, the changes were coming thick and fast however the biggest cheer of the night was saved for former Ibrox hero Charlie Adam who came on with 30 minutes to go.

Rangers continued to threaten with Lafferty again going close with an effort from distance while Jordan Henderson also went close for Liverpool however in the end the Glasgow side held on to spoil Kenny Dalglish’s return to Glasgow.
