Newcastle are closing in on the 8 million pound signing of Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga.
The 24 year old is a long time target of Newcastle boss Alan Pardew and was suspended by the French side earlier this season after refusing to play.
However Maiga is now is expected to complete his move to St James’ Park in January despite Sochaux complaining to FIFA over an alleged illegal approach from Newcastle during the summer.
The Ligue 1 club claim Newcastle unsettled their player leading to his refusal to play.
The Mali international Maiga has since softened his stance and is back in the Sochaux side, scoring four goals in six games this season.
