The two best club sides in Waterford, Stradbally and Ballinacourty meet in the County Senior Football Final this Sunday in Fraher Field.
In a renewal of last year’s decider, the latter will be hoping to gain compensation for their defeat in 2010.
Stradbally are undoubtedly the top club team in the county over the past decade, winning five titles between 2001 and 2005 and again in 2009 and 2010.
Ballinacourty took the 2007 final but have failed to build on that success and will be very anxious to add another county title to their honours this Sunday.
The current champions will be favourites to add to their record of 16 county successes and it will take a huge effort from Ballinacourty if they are to be stopped.
Ballinacourty, who only have 4 county titles, have a young side that are more than capable of mixing it with the champions.
The 2007 Waterford club of the year, are due another success at the top level and will leave no stone unturned as they attempt to overthrow the reigning champions. Indeed, the championship has been a three horse race over the last ten years, with only the Nire breaking the stranglehold of the two sides that meet this weekend.
Stradbally have to be given the vote, and as with all great sides, they deserve to be champions until they are defeated. Perhaps Ballinacourty can do so this Sunday, but until that actually happens, Stradbally will remain the team to beat.
