Ireland sweat on Long injury

Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni will be sweating in his Italian home this evening after learning that Shane Long was forced off after only 19 minutes of West Bromwich Albion’s clash with Aston Villa.

The former Reading man was the victim of a couple crunching tackles form Villa right back Alan Hutton, the first of which was after 12 minutes and forced Long onto the sidelines for some treatment.

The 24 year old managed to come back on but appeared to be struggling and any hope he had of running the injury off disappeared on 16 minutes when Hutton once again chopped the striker down, this time earning a booking.

Somen Tchoyi replaced Long with not even 20 minutes gone and with Kevin Doyle out and Robbie Keane struggling with injury this was the last thing that Irish fans would want to have seen.

Hopefully the injury is not too serious and we will have more updates as soon as they become available.
