Ireland took first blood in the Shinty/Hurling International Test against Scotland in Athy, Co. Kildare.
Last year Scotland recorded an epic victory at Croke Park over the Irish however Ireland fought back to claim the trophy, this time round there was no mistake at home as Ireland eased to a 1-16 to 2-08 win.
The score line should have been more for the Irish who dominated their Scottish counterparts, a strong final quarter adding some respectability to the score line and ensuring the second leg will be a tight affair.
Tipperary star Eoin Kelly scored 5 points for Ireland with Carlow star Eoin Nolan matching his efforts with 1-02 while Offaly’s Joe Bergin and Laois’s Willie Hyland contributed two points apiece.
Gary Innes and Keith McRae scored late goals for Scotland as the visitors rallied ensure that it is still all to play for when the two sides meet again in the decider at 2.00pm on Saturday 29th October at Bught Park, Inverness in Scotland
