Shamrock Rovers head to the Student bowl on Tuesday evening at 7.05pm hoping to secure the win that will hand them the 2011 Airtricity League title.
Rovers have had the edge on UCD this season scoring 23 goals in their 5 meetings to date however UCD have finished the season with some strong performances, ending the title challenges of Bohemians and St Pats in the process and are currently unbeaten in five home games.
Speaking ahead of the game Rovers boos Michael O’Neill was keen to get the win that would wrap up the title: “We don’t want it to have to go to the last game of the season, so we will want to wrap it up against UCD.
“But we know UCD will be up for a battle. They have been on the end of a couple of heavy defeats to us this year, and will want to make up for that. We will have to be clinical on the night.”
The Hoops will be with the suspended trio of Billy Dennehy, Gary Twigg and Chris Turner while Karl Sheppard and Enda Stevens are both doubts.
UCD meanwhile will be without Samir Belhout and Danny Ledwith who are suspended while Ger Barron and Sean Harding are out with foot and hip injuries.
Prediction: Draw – UCD will be up for the fight and will be keen to keep up their recent good form. The pressure of securing an evitable 2nd successive title might see Rovers struggle a bit especially without Twigg.
Fact: Should the Hoops avoid defeat they will have gone the entire season without losing to a Dublin side.
