Confirmation from the I.A.B.A that two of the country’s leading stars have signed new agreements for the coming season of World Series Boxing.
Ken Egan and Con Sheehan have signed one-season (six month) contracts with the Leipzig Leopards .
The Irish duo signed with the Leopards at the National Stadium in Dublin yesterday.
The Germans first outing of the new season will be a home match versus Mexico City on November 11, followed by an away tie against the Beijing Dragons on November 18.
Sheehan, who boxes out of the Clonmel BC, looks set to line out for the Leopards against Mexico City, while Neilstown BC southpaw Egan’s first match will be in early December at home to Istanbulls.
“It will be a gift to go to Germany, fight and come back. They don’t need to put us up in camp over there and I think the Germans are happy with the training we’re doing, that’s how confident they are, said Egan.
“They’re letting us train here because they know we’re in top-class shape. It will just be a matter of flying out a couple of days before the fight, fighting, coming straight back and falling straight back in with the team.”
Sheehan added: ” I can’t wait for it, five rounds is going to suit me down to the ground, it might help my style to help me get more aggressive.
Egan was signed to a three-year deal with Miami in the WSB but the American side went bust after just one season.
Meanwhile, John Joe Nevin will line out for Paris United for the new season.
The two-time AIBA World bronze medalist, who is signed to a three-year contract with United, helped the Parisians win the inaugural WSB Team Championships last season.
