Waterford native inks new deal as four new signing’s announced
An Post team manager Kurt Bogaerts today announced key team member Sam Bennett has signed on for another year with the Sean Kelly outfit.
“I am delighted that Sam has signed for another season with us. He had a difficult start coming back from an injury from the previous year, which took time to sort out. During the second half of the season everything came together for him and he produced some great results, the highlight of which was his win at the GP van de Stad Geel (1.2).”
“Next season I’m sure we will have him fully fit from the start of the year and I really expect him to be one of the most important members of the team in 2012” Bogaerts added.
On top of Bennett’s re signing Bogaerts confirmed the team had taken on four new youngsters with great pedigrees, including 20-year old Australian rider Scott Law, a previous stage winner of the Tour of Geelong.
UK track rider Mark Christian, a bronze medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth games in the 40K Scratch race and young Belgian duo Joren Segers and 2011 Ronde van Noord Holland (1.2) winner, Nils Wytinck, have also signed deals.
Bogaerts admitted that he had been following the quartet closely over the last year and he hopes to develop them over the coming seasons.
“All four riders have a lot of potential and they’ve shown they have the talent based on previous results. Our plan is to develop them long term, so I hope they will be part of the setup for a few years. Both Law and Christian have good track experience, which was something we looked out for. Gediminas Bagdonas had a similar track history so I hope they will turn out like him.”
