Graeme McDowell finished 3rd at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai today on sixteen under four shots behind winner Martin Kaymer with Rory McIlroy 4th on fifteen under.

Kaymer carded a sensational seven birdies on the back nine for his second win of the year, he now moves to No 4 in the world.

McIlroy, who was shadowed inside the ropes by tennis star girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki throughout the tournament, saw his front nine rally to gain the lead peter out with two bogeys.

“It was an OK year,” Kaymer said. “But now it’s a good year.”

Europe now occupies the first four positions in the world ranking, starting with Luke Donald at No 1.

Donald did not play in the HSBC Champions because his wife is expecting their second child.
