Brian O’Driscoll has confirmed that he will be out for the next six months as he prepares to undergo surgery on his troublesome neck/shoulder injury that has troubled him for almost a year.

The Leinster and Ireland star was visibly hurting during the World Cup and confirmed the worst fears of his supporters this afternoon by ruling himself out until the start of May 2012 at the earliest.

It means that the 32 year old will miss the Heineken Cup with Leinster and all of Ireland’s Six Nations games as he tries to rid himself of the trapped nerve in his neck that has brought his season to a shuddering halt.
