Betfair predicts no Euro crisis Ireland

Updated: November 11, 2011

AN IRISH TEAM anxious to put the ghost of Paris behind them may be facing into their Euro2012 Play Off against Estonia with a poor return from these knockout scenarios but astute Betfair punters, confident Ireland can dispatch their plucky Baltic foe over the two legs, are betting accordingly.

Ireland were previously backed at a high of 3/1 to reach the Finals in Poland and the Ukraine but that price is ancient history now and Trap’s men are currently a red hot 2/5 to progress.

Betfair spokesman Barry Orr commented today: ‘’There has been a weight of money in recent days for Ireland to qualify but because of our previous experiences in both Euro & World Cup Play Offs, no one wants to tempt fate by saying we really should win.’’

‘’Our market, however, is predicting a comfortable aggregate victory for the ‘Boys in Green’ and at 2/5, they still look a decent bet to secure their passage to the Finals against a very average but committed Estonian team. The fact that Tuesday next will be the 10th anniversary of our only other Play Off success, versus Iran in November 2001, only adds to the sense of expectation.’’
