It has been confirmed that last year’s Derby and Arc hero Workforce has been retired to stud.
The son of Kings Best will join former stable mate Harbinger in Japan next year where he will stand at Teruya Yoshida’s Shadai Farm after a deal was completed by owner Khalid Abdullah.
Workforce burst onto the scene with a spectacular debut win in his two year old season and followed that up with a stellar three year old campaign which saw him land the Derby in record time and also narrowly land the Arc by a head from the Japanese challenger Nakayama Festa.
Despite landing the Brigadier Gerard Stakes first time out this year, he wouldn’t win another race. He finished second behind So You Think in the Coral Eclipse and behind Nathaniel in the King George before rounding off his career with a well-beaten 12th place effort behind Danedream in the Arc.
During his career Workforce won four of his nine starts and more than £3.2m in prize-money.
