Former Ireland head coach Eddie O’Sullivan has left his post as manager of the USA Eagles.
The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise following a strong display by the US team in the recent Rugby World Cup. He took charge of the Eagles back in2009 for his second stint as part of their coaching team. He was the assistant coach in 1998 before moving back to Ireland a year later.
He guided them to the 2011 World Cup but has confirmed that he won’t be looking to get his contract renewed and said he is looking at other options in Rugby. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my two-and-a-half years as head coach to the USA Eagles, it has been a rewarding journey working with all the players and staff. “I was delighted with our progress and overall performances in the Rugby World Cup, but feel that it is now time for me to consider other options closer to home.”The win over Russia and the performance against Ireland on 9/11 was particularly special. I would like to wish USA Rugby every success in the future.”
