Liverpool and Arsenal have joined the race to sign Barcelona defender Eric Abidal.
The French left-back is out of contract at Camp Nou next summer and is yet to agree a new deal with the Spanish champions.
It is thought that the 32 year old would prefer to remain with the Champion League holders however if the terms of a new two-year extension with Barcelona cannot be met the player could be on the move.
At the moment the La Liga outfit are only prepared to offer a 12 month extension and according to the Daily Mirror that has alerted Arsenal and Liverpool as well as Manchester City, Milan and PSG who are all monitoring the situation with a view to making a January move.
Earlier this week his agent David Venditelli told COM Radio: “We have very good relations with Barcelona, but we have not yet found the solution to extend the contract.
“The truth is that, as time goes by, the risk of Abidal leaving Barcelona next year gets higher.”
He added: “There are two issues to address: the length of the contract and the salary.
“There will be a new meeting in December. Abidal wants to stay at Barca, he wants to retire here. That is his wish.”
