St Brigids 1-20 Horeswood 3-7
Dublin county champions St Brigids saw off Horeswood from Wexford in the Leinster club championship quarter final at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon. Despite conceding three goals, Brigids had enough in reserve to book their place in the last four.
The side from the capital started the brighter and led 0-3 to 0-1 in the early stages of the game. With Paddy Andrews playing a starring role, Brigids extended that lead to 0-7 to 1-1. However, the Horeswood forwards were proving a real handful for the home defence and two further goals left the visitors leading at the break, 0-8 to 3-2. County star PJ Banville led the way for the side from the South East and he was a major threat to the Brigids defence throughout the game. In most cases, goals win games, but to their credit, the Dublin men fought back after the interval.
Having fought back to narrow the gap,Brigids went ahead 0-17 to 3-5. A late goal sealed the issue and at 1-18 to 3-6 they were as good as home. While they will be thrilled to get over this hurdle and qualify for the latter stages, the defence will really need to tighten up. The three goals that they conceded were very soft scores, and Portlaoise will be a much tougher side in the semi final.
