Manchester Utd are prepare to go toe to toe with Chelsea for the signature of Luka Modric when the January transfer window, according to reports in The People.
For the majority of the summer it seemed only a matter of time before Modric left Spurs for the blue half of London such was Chelsea’s interest in the playmaker. Chelsea had three bids of £25m, £30m and £40m rejected by Spurs.
It seems now that Harry Redknapp will have to steal himself for another busy transfer as Man Utd look set to test his resolve further.
Speaking after Monday’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said of Modric: “I just love him. Not just as a footballer but as a boy and a fella. He’s top class.
“He had all those problems in the summer when Chelsea wanted him but never ever put his head down or caused problems for anybody.
“We’ve got to keep him here. There aren’t too many Luka Modric’s who come along.
“If we’re looking to be a big club and the chairman showed that in the summer I’m sure we’ll look after him by getting a new deal sorted.”
