Champion jockey Tony McCoy believes that Binocular won’t have things his own way tomorrow as the pair in search in of another Grade 1 success in the Stanjames.com Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.
The pair, whose finest moment came when they landed the 2010 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, were last seen finishing down the field to Hurricane Fly at Punchestown last season and McCoy feels that he will face a stiff test from the likes of Celestial Halo and Overturn.
Speaking to attheraces the 16 time champion jockey said “Nicky Henderson is very happy with him. There is a worry that he got beat his last two runs but he has tended to be a horse that has improved for having a run.
“It is not going to be an easy task but we have got to start somewhere and hopefully he will do better this year than he did last year when things did not go right for him.”
McCoy continued: “He has probably never been the easiest horse to get right but I thought when I saw him earlier on in the year he actually looked a little lighter. That does not necessarily mean that he is going to be fitter but he looked lighter.
“He was carrying plenty of condition last year for whatever reason but he looked lighter”
