The AVIVA Irish Schools’ teams will compete at the annual Schools’ Combined Events International in the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on Saturday 3rd December. They will be up against the best schools’ combined eventers in England, Scotland and Wales.
Nevertheless, in recent years we have acquitted ourselves quite well in this international. As usual the team to beat will be the English Schools’. The Irish Schools’ have their best chance in the Intermediate Boys’ event. Here Ireland has an outstanding competitor in Eric Stam, Coachford CC Cork. Eric is a very promising combined eventer with no weak event. He will be ably backed up by Evan Maguire, St Joseph’s Galway, and Colin Nolan, Enniscorthy Vocational School.
The Junior Boys’ team could make an impact if Sam Healy, Carrigaline CS Cork, continues to progress as he has been doing.
In the Intermediate Girls’ event Sarah McCarthy, Maryfield Dublin,, was the outstanding competitor in the AVIVA All-Ireland. She will be hoping for more of the same.
