Raheny United (Sunday) retained their top of table position in the Bus Éireann National Women’s League with a thrilling 2-3 win over Wexford Youths Women’s team. Elsewhere in the fourth round of the Bus Éireann National Women’s League, Shamrock Rovers lost 0-1 to Cork Women’s FC in Tallaght Stadium, and Castlebar Celtic fell foul to Peamount United with a 1-4 loss in Celtic Park.
Raheny United travelled to Ferrycarrig Park with the hope of holding on to their 100% record in the league after last week’s triumph over Peamount United. Rebecca Creagh opened scoring for the Dublin side in the 14th minute, and was followed by goals from Katie McCabe in the 56th minute, and Irish U19 International Ciara Grant in the 76th minute. Two superb goals from Wexford’s Kylie Murphy were not enough to pertain Raheny’s winning ways.
Despite the welcome return of captain Niamh Connolly and having a full squad to choose from, Shamrock Rovers finished 0-1 to Cork Women’s FC in Tallaght Stadium today. Cork continued their habit of scoring in the dying moments of the game with an 86th minute winner from Valerie Mulcahy.
Peamount United were keen to redeem themselves after losing to Raheny United last Sunday. An early opener from Castlebar’s Emma Hansberry appeared to wake the Dublin side up, as they replied with a goal from Irish Senior International Louise Quinn in the 39th minute. A thrilling scoring blitz of three goals within ten minutes then followed for Peamount with Sara Lawlor netting two in the 52nd and 59th minute, and a penalty from Irish Senior International Aine O’Gorman in the 54th minute of the game.
Next weekend’s fixtures will see Raheny United host Castlebar Celtic, Peamount United will be up against Shamrock Rovers and Cork Women’s FC will be at home to Wexford Youths Women. All games kick-off at 2pm on Sunday, December 11.
