South Africa beat Ireland in Argentina

Ireland 0-2 South Africa (4 Nations Argentina)

In the first game of their 2 X 4 Nation Tournaments in Argentina Ireland lost 2-0. A goal scored in each half through Maresca Mareschia and Celia Evans gave South Africa all 3 points. South Africa has started stronger but as the half progressed it was Ireland who had more possesion. Irelands only corner of the half was well defended whilst South Africa scored from one of two penalty corners after a swtich left Mareschia found the net in the 29th minute.

The second half was evently contested with both sides forcing turnovers and no corners conceded. Colvin, Daly and Watkins did well in midfield for Ireland in the absence of Senior players Emma Clarke and Emma Smyth. South Africa scored their second in the 52nd minute when Bright set up Celia Evans, who made sure after Grays initial save (2-0).

Irish Coach Gene Muller said after the game On the positive side we fielded many young players who were not out of place. The organisation was good but technically we were inconsistant and in a close match this was the difference.

Next up for Ireland are India at 18.00 tomorrow Thursday 8th December.
