Shamrock Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Stephen Kenny as the club’s new manager.

The former Dunfermline manager Kenny leaves his role with Derry City to take over from Michael O’Neill in Tallaght.

Kenny, who led Derry to third place in the table and the EA sports club last season, has also previously managed Longford town and Bohemians, with whom he won the title in 2003.

A statement on the club’s official website confirmed the appointment “Shamrock Rovers are delighted to confirm the appointment of Stephen Kenny as the club’s new manager”

“With over 13 years managing at the top level of Irish football, Kenny brings a wealth of experience to the role ahead of the 2012 season”

The appointment follows in the footsteps of Gary McCabe, Stephen O’Donnell and Chris Turner who have committed to the club for the 2012 season in recent weeks.
