Champion Hurdle winner Hurricane Fly will miss his intended Christmas engagement, the Istabraq Hurdle on Thursday, trainer Willie Mullins has revealed.
The son of Montjeu has not been seen on a racetrack since running away with the Irish Champion Hurdle at the Punchestown festival. Willie Muliins said on Wednesday morning “I’ve decided not to run Hurricane Fly at Leopardstown and Thousand Stars will be our runner in the race.”
The decision to miss the Istabraq Hurdle is the latest race that Hurricane Fly has been scheduled to line up in, only to be pulled out at the last minute. Bookmaker Blue Square have reacted by pushing the defending champion out to 5-2 for the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham festival
