Having disposed of Wigan with consummate ease, Manchester Utd welcome Blackburn to Old Trafford in the early game in the Barclays Premier League on New Year’s Eve, kick off 12.45pm.
The defending league champions have been on a good run as of late. The defeat of Wigan was their fifth straight win in a row as they continue to keep the pressure of local neighbours Manchester City at the top of the table.
Utd come into the game with a number of frontliners on the injury list. Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping that Rio Ferdinand and Phil Jones will be able to play some part against Steve Kean’s outfit.
Sir Alex, who turns 70 on New Year’s Eve, has a number of attacking options in front of him. Dimitar Berbatov could be given a chance to further impress Sir Alex after his five star performance against Wigan on St Stephens Day.
Utd will face a Blackburn side in desperate need of any type of positive result as they face into 2012 with a huge fight on their hands to retain their Premier League status. Under pressure boss Steve Kean got a much needed boost when his side took a point away from Liverpool on St Stephens Day and will be looking for much the same here.
Blackburn, like Utd, have a lengthy injury list to cope with. Gael Givet, Ryan Nelsen, Scott Dann and Michel Salgado will all miss out, while first-choice goalkeeper Paul Robinson is also set to miss out.
Speaking ahead of the game, Kean praised Sir Alex for showing support as the Blackburn fans continue to voice their anger at Kean and demanding his removal. Kean said “ Sir Alex left a long message and I called him back. We had a good chat and I was very appreciative of his message of support, along with most other managers who have been in contact.”
This should be a game that Man Utd win. They have been in a rich vein of form as of late and they are taken as the selection to continue that good run going while turning the pressure up on Steve Kean.
A 3-0 scoreline is the predication and can be backed at 7.8 on Betfair
