Former Sligo Rovers striker Eoin Doyle marked his first start for Hibernians with a goal as Pat Fenlon tasted victory for the first time since taken over with a 3-2 Scottish Cup win over third division side Cowdenbeath.
A shock looked on the cards when Greig Stewart open the scoring inside the 1st minute however first Leigh Griffin’s on 18 minutes and then Doyle on 27 minutes put Hibs in control before David Wotherspoon made it 3-1 with 35 minutes left.
John Robertson scored on 69 minutes to make for a edgy ending but Hibs held on to give the former Bohemians manager his first win.
Elsewhere Hearts edged past junior team Auchinleck Talbot 1-0 in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday to avoid what would have been one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history. Gordon Smith’s 84th-minute goal was enough for the Scottish Premier League side, which had a penalty saved in the 20th minute at Tynecastle.
Auchinleck almost salvaged a replay when Gordon Pope scored in stoppage time but the strike was ruled out for offside.
Elsewhere Motherwell beat Queens Park 4-0, while Ross County beat Stenhousemuir 7-0 while Kilmarnock drew 1-1 away to Dundee.
Rangers and Celtic play fourth-round matches on Sunday.
