Champion Hurdler Hurricane Fly has been made 4/5 favourite for his seasonal debut in the BHP Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown at the end of January.
Despite having missed a number of high profile engagements in the first half of the season, the son of Montjeu has been installed as odds on favourite in a race that could see him clash with high class mares Voler La Vedette and Unaccompanied along with the Nicky Henderson trained Spirit Son.
Speaking to attheraces, Dermot Weld, trainer of Unaccompanied said that while Hurricane Fly is a ‘champion’ he has no problem taking on him with his crack mare. “He’s an exceptional horse – a champion – but she needs all the experience at this level to win at this level.
“She runs in the race and what runs against her runs against her.The best is yet to come. Whatever she does this year, I think she’ll be better as a six-year-old.”
