Finland’s Osku Palermaa became the first international player and first two-handed-style bowler to win the Professional Bowlers Association World Championship, beating Ryan Shafer 203-177 on Sunday in the first major championship of the season.
The 28-year-old Palermaa survived two elimination games to advance to the final at South Point Casino. In the first, he edged Australia’s Jason Belmonte 10-6 in a one-ball roll-off for the third spot. The Finn then finished second behind Shafter in the second round.
Palermaa earned $50,000 for his second PBA title.
