Arsenal could be without up to twelve players for their revenge clash with Manchester United with Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho on African Nations Cup duty and injury depriving Arsene Wenger the services of Francis Coquelin, Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson, Andre Santos, Abou Diaby, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere all out.

Wenger is also sweating on the fitness of Thierry Henry who faces a test while Thomas Vermaelen is also a doubt.

Revenge and atonement has been very much in the minds of the Arsenal players with Wojciech Szczesny, who was forced to pick the ball out his net 8 times when the sides met in September telling Arsenal player “Obviously I want to make up for what happened at Old Trafford last time around, so I am very excited about the game,”

“Somewhere in the back of our heads, that game will still be there and we want to make up for it.

“We just have to focus on our own game, to make sure we are at our best.

“It is motivation for us now, but as soon as we get on the pitch, we will forget about it.”

While 22 goal striker Robin Van Persie, told the Sun “In football you will always get another chance to set things straight again. We want to do this for the team spirit and mainly for our fans.

“We will never forget how great their support was before, during and after that game. The fans out there that day were amazing, they showed us the ultimate support. We want to make amends for them.”

United meanwhile will welcome back Chris Smalling and Phil Jones after the pair missed the 3-0 win over Bolton last week while Ashley Young, Anderson and Tom Cleverley are still out.

Paul Scholes will make his third appearance following his comeback to the United set up.
