Betfair punters backing Irish cricketers

Following Wednesday’s epic victory over the ‘Auld Enemy’, Ireland’s cricketers move on to face an Indian team ranked second best in the competition and at 20/1, punters on Betfair are not dismissing the ‘Blarney Army’ as no-hopers.

Ireland, who were matched at an in-play high of 399/1 when trailing England on Wednesday, have been backed at 33/1 for their latest match and while a cricket powerhouse, such as India would be expected to dismiss an Irish challenge with ease, punters are not so sure. The result is that India’s odds have drifted from a rock solid 1/50, to a less certain 1/25.

Betfair spokesman Barry Orr commented today: ’’Tournament favourites India have drifted from 1/50 to 1/25 for this game and that indicates a nervousness exists about having to face the Irish. That’s about right because, regardless of what happens, this team are national heroes after this week’s defeat of England so in the eyes of the nation, if not the team, everything else is now a bonus. It is certain to be a fascinating match although I’m not so sure we will see the same massive in-play odds on a Irish victory this time around’’

1/25 India, 20/1 Ireland(Befair odds).
