John Terry stripped of England captaincy

Updated: February 3, 2012

John Terry has on Friday morning been stripped of the England captaincy ahead of the Euro 2012 championship in Poland and Ukraine this summer.

The Chelsea and England central defender is also subject of criminal charges after been charged with racially abusing the Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League game played last October.

It is understood that Terry, who had denied the charge, was told this morning by the Football Association at ten o clock this morning that he would no longer be captain of the England team.

It is the second time in in international career that Terry has lost the captain’s armband of England. In 2010 he lost the job after intense speculation over his private life.
